My Human Mom tells me that there are a lot of steps she still needs to do before she’s ready to publish her new novel.
Here are some things which I secretly know about it:
It’s a Domestic Crime Novel (Apparently that’s her favorite type of crime novel along with Domestic Noir novels).
She tells me because there is a Femme Fatale in her novel it might also be categorized as Domestic Noir.
She’s likely going to launch it in May (That’s a long time in doggy days). That’s if all goes well!
The title is The Set Up.
Here’s a tentative blurb for it:
Homeless sixteen-year-old Maya has found the perfect summer job – getting a cottage ready to serve as a half-way house to delinquent girls. A summer job where she won’t have to wonder where she’s going to sleep for a while. Being by the lake in nature will give her time to grieve the death of her mother. Best of all, she’s met Charlie, the boy who lives in the cottage next door who gives her the attention she craves and the promise of a bright future if she sticks with him. But Charlie has a very dark side and Maya becomes involved in a murderous scheme. What will happen to Maya now that she is being blamed for the murder by the police? Who can possibly help her?
I love to listen to my Human Mom read her manuscript out loud, but honestly, I’m disappointed because I’m not even in it!
In the meantime, you might want to have a look at my Human Mom’s other books on her author page. (Every time you click on one of her books I get a treat).
No dog? Or that’s a secret!

I sure enjoyed your last novel and look forward to this one too. I love how you had Bau do your advertising for you. He’s so cute! You’ll have to teach him to read.

Thank you, Anneli. We’re working on it but he keeps falling asleep. Besides, he only wants to read books about dogs. 🙂

Maybe you need to put him into your next novel.

I’m thinking of hiring him as my agent. Treats aren’t that expensive! 🙂

Thanks, Anneli. The good thing about using a dog as PR is that it brings some lightness to the novel – especially when it’s a crime novel, Plus, I’m not very good at tooting my own horn. 🙂

I know that feeling. I keep thinking I should advertise about my novels, but then … it’s hard to “toot my own horn.” But what options do we have, really? Not many.

Some people do it shamelessly. I recently listened to a webinar on Amazon Ads. It was really over my head and in the end it was more an ad for their advertising school. Maybe you could get Lincoln to chew on one of your books that you left out and you can indicate the part he chewed and comment on it. Food for thought!

What a great idea! My current WIP has a dog breeder, but he supports the local rescue. Bau is in! What breed is he? xo

I had posted a review of Calmer Girls on my blog (2019) and in re-reading it I remember how much I enjoyed your novel. Also, I had forgotten to post a review on Amazon which I just did. Sorry for being so late in doing so. I also downloaded Calmer Secrets and am looking forward to reading it. Have a great day. 🙂

Thank you, Carol! I’m excited that you’re about to read CS, because now you get to find out how everything turns out for the Crosses. And thanks for sharing your glowing review of CG. It means a lot. You enjoy your day as well. 🙂

Bau, we feel your pain. Our mom is busy writing yet another Amanda book. She barely has time for walks with us. Your mom’s book sounds very good though. Our mom would like it. Licks, Dot and Lia.

Thanks for your kind words, Dot and Lia. At least you guys have each other. I keep hoping my mom will adopt another dog but she keeps saying that her place is too small. Really! How much space does a puppy take?
Good luck with your book.

Bau, the blurb for your mom’s new book is captivating. You must be so proud … although I don’t know why she couldn’t have given you a cameo appearance in her book. Maybe next time, eh?

Actually, there is a mention of a dog but it’s not me. So sad. I feel betrayed.

Thanks for your kind encouragement, Ellie. There’s so much more, as you know, to writing a book – now I’m searching for a cover. I’ve been trying to use the Kindle template for paperbacks to use on Canva but what a nightmare!
Have a beautiful day filled with joy.

I can get the template and then when I want to use it on Canva I have to compress it. I went on different YouTube videos on how to do it but it was really too overwhelming. I guess we can’t be good at everything. 🙂

Hi Marieanne,
I’m so happy to see you here. I’m also happy that you’re doing well. Ontario is really getting hit hard with the virus. At least spring is here along with warmer weather and we can be outdoors more. I’m anxious to put some flowers on my balcony. Things haven’t been so bad here though and I’ve been very busy getting ready to put out my book and working on another, which is about Alzheimer and memory. Right now I’m in the process of trying to find a cover for my book. It’s complicated but I’m sure it will work out.
I’ve been doing lots of yoga and going out with my dog. I’m grateful that I have him.
I hope that your girls and their families are well. Take care xxx Carol Ann

I often think of you, Debby and hope that this intense journey you are going through will bring you inspiration. Somehow, I see a book on mourning and grief as part of your collection.
After my sister died, I documented every time grief and sorrow would immerge. I did this for a year and out of it came my fist book; Mourning Has Broken. Writing helps. ❤ xxx

Absolutely my friend. I have oodles of writings throughout this journey that I most definitely intend to put into a book. I know exactly what you mean. And you know I loved your book Mourning has Broken. ❤

The cover…I am trying to figure that out. I tried the KDP template but need to compress it (which is for me an impossible task) so that I could use it for a paperback cover on Canva. I reached out to someone on Reedsy but haven’t heard back yet.
Thanks, Annika, for your encouraging words about the blurb. ❤
