I’m always excited to learn about the color of the year. Last year’s color contained two colors: yellow and grey with (A) message of happiness supported by fortitude, the combination of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is aspirational and gives us hope. We need to feel that everything is going to get brighter – this is essential to the human spirit.

This year’s color is meant to “open us up to new visions as we rewrite our lives.”

To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute™ comb the world looking for new color influences. These can include the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact color, relevant social media platforms and even upcoming sporting events that capture worldwide attention. For 23 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.

This is so interesting! Color and tone really do impact us, more than we know, I think, and it’s fascinating to see how that plays out.

Love this Carol! Also interesting to note this color is the color of our third eye (our brow chakra) which represents how we see and perceive the world. When this chakra is healthy we see and understand oneness, deep awareness of the truth, and a higher perspective of life, other than the one we see on the media, news or when we are suffering! Happy New Year. 💜💜💜💜

Thank you, Karen, for pointing this out. It is so interesting. It’s one of my favorite colors and so I’m delighted that it is the color of the year. May your 2022 be filled with a healthy chakra. ❤

I love the new colours for the year. More vibrant than drabby 2021. 🙂 x

Color really has an influence on our mood. As I listened to the interview with the president of Pantone I realized how drab my home is with its grey walls. Although I do have a purple wall. Sometimes all it takes are some bright cushions to brighten up a place!

That’s all you need Carol. Punches of accents. I know grey walls are quite the trend and it sounds like you already have an accent wall, so yes, some cushions and even a fun piece of art from Winners would freshen up a room with minimal cost. 🙂

I think a Very Peri coloured collar would look great on Bau!

Carol, this is fascinating and I had no idea there were colours for each year! They definitely seem to do their research and I love this year’s choice. We have a hint of this on one wall in our bedroom. Does this mean I have all the attributes as described by the company?! 😀 A reminder for us never to forget the use of colour within our creative writing … it can say so much more than we imagine!

Annika, I think it does mean that you have all the attributes described by the company – with or without the color. ❤

I was aware of this year’s color because I know someone whose name is Peri, and she was happy to share :). Of course, my kitty Perry’s middle name is Winkle, so we are very familiar with this beautiful color ;).

Your excitement is contagious, and the importance of color is, to me, highlighted in a quote I once heard: “In nature, light creates the color. In the picture, color creates the light.”
