Hello Dear Friends,
My Facebook account has been hacked. I’ve lost all my contacts and cannot receive any outside posts from friends who I follow. Also, my password has been changed.
I had two profiles. A regular one and an author profile. In addition, someone put another profile using my name with posts from people I have never heard from. And not one of my contacts are on this post. What I get on this fake profile are my WordPress posts. WHAT?
My author page seems to be working for now, but there are some things missing on it.
I have managed to suspend the third fake account. I didn’t delete it yet because I am afraid if I do so it will also delete my real accounts.
However, at this point I am thinking of deleting all my profiles and save myself time and the headaches.
Has this happened to any of you? If so, what did you do?
I hope you’re having a better day than I am!
In the meantime, I’m listening to music to get me out of my funk.
Ugh! I’m sorry to hear this, Carol! I wish I could offer you useful advice, but I can’t. I will say that if that happened to me, I’d just delete everything and start over. It’s hard, but might be worth it?

I am very much thinking about that, Margot, and if I delete everything I will not start over. FB is supposed to look into this.

Oh Carol 😦 You are like the 10th author I know this year who got hacked. I feel for you, not only for what happened, but because FAKEBOOK is the lamest social site for support. They don’t answer anything and there is no real help. I wonder how you even got in touch with anyone there to help you? ❤

Well, my niece got in touch with them and they said that they would look into my situation but at this point, Debby, I am inclined more to get off Facebook. I have an author page but it hasn’t been very helpful in reaching my books out there, even through they’re paid ads.
I think I will take Coleen Chesebro’s advice and get a KU account. That seems a lot more promising. ❤

So many of us are sick of fakebook. I’m currently in fb jail for the fifth time this year for posting an opinion, yet all the haters can spew their trash on that unregulated site. I probably will follow suit. I’m in jail there more than I’m not, so I won’t miss it. Using messenger is good enough to stay in touch. FB needs to clean up their act and stop letting robots do their AI patrol. It’s nonsensical. ❤

Lol! I thought I was the only one that called it fake book. I left the platform sometime ago and I don’t miss it on bit.

Oh, thanks for saying this, Jill. It encourages me to leave as well. 🙂

Wear FB jail as a badge of honor, Debby. They only jail one kind of opinion!

I am so sorry, Carol. That must be so stressful and upsetting. I don’t know what you can do. I have thankfully never been through it, but a friend of mine was hacked and just started again. I hope you can do better and rescue your contacts. Sending you love xx

Thank you for your advice. But rather than start over I think I’ll just get off FB. Unless they fix it for me. Not counting on that. Have a great day. xx

Oh Carol, I’m sorry this happened. Facebook is getting worse, there’s no doubt. Did you lose any Facebook photo albums because of this?

I lost all my contacts and photos as well. I’ll see if they can rectify the situation and if not I’ll just say goodbye to FB. xx Thanks for caring.

Oh Caro,l – what a horrible thing to happen to you! I certainly would hate to lose you as a close friend. (Perhaps it’s like Covid, we’ll all get it eventually, even if we’ve been vaxed and boosted.) Stay upbeat – for this too shall pass. ❤

Even if I leave FB I will still be on WordPress. I love you’re analogy to Covid, Ellie. Just hope you don’t catch the hack. xxx

Sorry to hear this. Nothing is safe online but at the moment it looks like fb is under attack. I know of two people who had their accounts hacked this week.

Thanks, Michael for this. I wonder what kind of thrill these hackers get from being so mean.

Oh no!!!! So sorry to hear this news. Have you set up 2-step authorization? That is an added level of safety.

What do they gain from hacking?

Good question? I don’t know. The only thing I can think of is that they can use my posts for their own whatever. They’re just too lazy and uncreative to write their own! ❤

I’ve never been hacked to the extent that you described. But many times, I’ve received messages from friends, saying they’d received friend requests or messages I hadn’t sent them. I changed my password, and that seemed to solve the problem.
You might try deleting all your accounts and starting from scratch. Be sure you’re using a strong password, containing upper and lower case letters, numbers, and punctuation. I hope that helps.

Thanks for your advice but at this point I’m leaning more towards just getting off FB.

Well, to be honest, I think you’d only hurt yourself if you quit using Facebook all together. I found it a great way to promote my books, despite its idiosyncrasies. But it’s up to you, of course. Good luck.

Thanks. I am still considering it. Do you have an author profile on FB? Do you advertise your books on FB?

Yes. I have an author page on Facebook, and I advertise my books there whenever I have an opportunity. You’ll find a link to my Facebook page on my blog.

I’m so sorry to hear this, Carol. It’s a lesson to every author to not rely on social media platforms. As I mentioned above, I left Facebook sometime ago.

It’s a nightmare being hacked. I often contemplate deleting my other social media accounts and still may one day. Facebook, though, seems especially vulnerable as well as Instagram. Good luck to you.

Yikes! They just wanted a legit account for their own purposes. Darn! I have two-step authentication set up wherever possible. It’s pretty easy to set up on FB. It saved me a few times on GoDaddy.

Thanks for sharing!!.. sorry you had to deal with the issues…. I had some minor issues a few years back and came to the conclusion that with all the options available, I did not need Facebook enough to have to deal with it, so I terminated my account and waked away…I have not regretted it… 🙂
Hope you have the mostest wonderfulest holiday ever and until we meet again..
May the love that you give
Always return to you,
That family and friends are many
And always remain true,
May your mind only know peace
No suffering or strife,
May your heart only know love and happiness
On your journey through life.
