Hi, I’m Carol Balawyder. I write women’s fiction and crime.
My Getting to Mr. Right Series helped me process my anger and hurt after my marriage fell apart while my mother and sister’s deaths pulled me to write Mourning Has Broken – a memoire on grief.
I am currently retired from teaching Corrections and Police Technology – a criminologist interested in the psycho-socio-political-economical aspects of crime.
Featuring my dog Bau, as a category on my blog, is fairly recent. He is my current writing/photography project and muse. His utterly unembarrassed confidence keeps me balanced and adds a touch of humour to my life.
I also post interviews with writers on how they got published, short posts on famous writers’ desks, Female Nobel Prize Winners for literature, femme fatales, the lighter Ten Great First Dates and some of my own short stories as well as book reviews. Feel free to browse and perhaps connect.
I am currently working on a second crime novel (Only the Lonely) and peddling the first (Warning Signs) to agents and publishers.
Thank you for stopping by.
I also taught English as a Second Language, but in Seoul, South Korea. Very impressed with your criminology studies. Sounds interesting!

Hi Charmaine,
Such a lovely e-mail. I wouldn’t mind receiving a paperback from you. Although I read quite a bit on my Kindle I still prefer paper copies. Thank you for your warm offer of friendship. Yes, let’s be friends. 🙂

I’m also glad to have met you too, Marian. Debby is so helpful. I’m really grateful to have come across her. Blogging is such an enriching experience. Writing is so very much an isolating experience but with blogging we now have the opportunity to get out of our bubble. 🙂

How’d I miss reading about YOU before? Fascinating, the twists and turns that lead us to writing. I’ve just finished reading Missi’s dating adventures and reviewed the book on your Amazon page. Fabulous read!

Dear Carol,
Sharing below an old blog post i wrote about my experience in dealing with the death of my older brother titled ‘There are always songs to sing’. It was the end of my childhood and the beginning of a spiritual journey that gradually erases our misguided understanding of who we are and what life is. Do read it when you can.
